Dubai is one of the seven emirates in United Arab Emirates (UAE). Dubai is located on the southern shore of the Persian Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula. Dubai is the second main Emirate after Abu Dhabi and is usually known as the 'Pearl of the Persian Gulf'. Al Fahidi Fort which houses the Dubai Museum was built around 1787 and once guarded the landward approaches to the town.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi are the only two emirates to possess veto power over critical matters of national consequence in the country's legislature. Dubai is one of the most multicultural cities in the world with the deportee community covering most of the population, with less than 10% of the total being national Emiratis.
